Why plays matter on Spotify

The play count is shown on every popular track and is often the first thing a new listener, playlist curator or label notices. Tracks that look like they are already being streamed get more saves and shares, and a strong first week helps a release stand out.

Which package should I choose?

Premium plays come from paid Spotify accounts and are our most popular choice for releases. Most artists start with 5,000–25,000 plays on a new track and spread larger campaigns over several orders.

How Spotify counts plays and what it does with them in 2026

Spotify counts a play once a listener has streamed at least 30 seconds of a track. Shorter listens are left out of the public number, and Spotify only shows an exact play count on a track once it passes 1,000 plays.

Behind that number, Spotify pays attention to how people react. Saves, repeat listens, playlist adds, shares and skips all tell its recommendation systems whether a song deserves more listeners. Spotify does not publish how much each reaction weighs, so any exact formula you read about elsewhere is guesswork.

Those reactions feed the places where most new listeners discover music. Release Radar refreshes every Friday with new tracks from artists that person follows or streams regularly. Discover Weekly arrives on Mondays with songs the listener has not heard yet, while Radio, autoplay and daylist keep choosing tracks once an album or playlist ends.

Editorial playlists are picked by Spotify staff and reached through a pitch in Spotify for Artists. When a curator, booker or label checks your profile before giving you a slot, the play count on your newest track is often the first figure they see.

Plays also decide the order of the Popular list on your artist profile. The songs people have streamed most recently rise to the top, so they are the first tracks a new visitor hears.

Ordering Spotify plays: Premium or Free

Spotify plays come in two tiers at the same price of $1 per 1,000 plays. Premium plays come from Spotify Premium accounts, and Free plays come from free accounts. Whichever you pick, streams start within 0–1 hour and run at 1K–10K plays per day.

TierPrice per 1,000Minimum orderMaximum order
Premium$1.001,000100,000,000
Free$1.0050020,000,000

Copy the public link to your track, album or playlist from the Share menu in Spotify. Pick a package, paste the link and give us your email address, which becomes the login for tracking your order. Payment is by card, Apple Pay or Swish; after that, the plays begin on their own.

Logged-in customers can use their balance instead of checking out again. Each order shows up under Orders with live progress, which is handy when you are pushing several songs in the same week.

How many plays a release needs

Think about the track in relation to the rest of your catalog. A new single at 100,000 plays sitting next to older songs at 2,000 raises more doubt than interest.

ReleaseSuggested playsWhy
Debut single, no catalog yet1,000–5,000Takes the track past the point where Spotify shows a count
New single from an artist with a few releases5,000–25,000The range most artists start with on a new track
Focus track on an EP or album10,000–50,000Lets the lead song stand out from the rest of the record
Older song getting new attention5,000–10,000Keeps a revived track in line with its age
Larger release campaign50,000–100,000 over several ordersSpreads growth across weeks instead of one spike

Plan the total for the whole release first, then divide it. A first order in release week and a second one a couple of weeks later gives the song a curve that looks like word of mouth.

Singles released close together deserve similar treatment. Put 20,000 plays on one track and nothing on the next, and the gap shows on your Popular list straight away.

Spotify plays price examples

Premium and Free cost the same per 1,000, so the choice comes down to the kind of account you want the plays from rather than your budget.

PackagePremiumFree
1,000 plays$1.00$1.00
5,000 plays$5.00$5.00
10,000 plays$10.00$10.00

Very large campaigns are possible as well: a single order can reach 100,000,000 plays on Premium and 20,000,000 on Free.

Building a release around your Spotify plays

Plays do the most when they land on a release that is set up to catch listeners. Treat the order as part of release week, not as an afterthought.

  • Pitch the song in Spotify for Artists at least seven days before release. That places it in your followers' Release Radar and gives editors a chance to hear it.
  • Add a Canvas, the short looping visual that plays behind the track on mobile, so the song looks finished when people land on it.
  • Share a pre-save link in the weeks before release, so fans have the song in their library on day one.
  • Time the first order for release day or the days right after, while the track is fresh in Release Radar.
  • Post a short clip of the hook as a TikTok or a YouTube Short and point viewers to the full song on Spotify.
  • Check saves and playlist adds in Spotify for Artists. They show whether listeners are keeping the song, not just sampling it.

Spotify for Artists also breaks down where streams come from. When listeners' own playlists and libraries start to appear in that breakdown, the song is building an audience of its own.

Mistakes that waste a Spotify plays order

Music links look alike, and a wrong paste is the most common way to lose an order. Check these points before you pay.

  • Pasting your artist profile link. Plays need a track, album or playlist; the artist page is where monthly listeners are shown.
  • Picking the wrong version. A radio edit, a remix and the album version each have their own link, so copy the one you want to grow.
  • Using a pre-save or pre-release link. Wait until the song is live and playable on Spotify.
  • Pasting the album link when only one single matters. Use that track's own link instead.
  • Linking a podcast episode or an audiobook. This service is for music on a track, album or playlist.
  • Ordering huge numbers for a track with no saves and few followers. The play count will look out of step with everything around it.
  • Ordering for a track you plan to take down or redistribute. A re-delivered release can get a new link and start again from zero.

Plays compared with monthly listeners, followers and saves

Plays live on the track, while monthly listeners live on the artist profile and count unique listeners over the past 28 days. If your goal is a stronger artist page, Spotify monthly listeners is the better fit. For a specific song, start with plays.

Followers and saves are earned the slow way, through music people want to keep. They matter because followers get your next release in Release Radar, so treat every play order as a chance to turn attention into a follow.

Saves deserve special attention. A save means a listener wants the song in their library, and you can encourage it by asking fans to save the track, not just stream it, in your posts and captions.

Many artists also put the music video on YouTube and teaser clips on TikTok. YouTube views and TikTok views help those versions keep pace with the Spotify count, so the song looks busy wherever a fan finds it.

Safety and privacy for your music

We never ask for your Spotify login or access to Spotify for Artists. The public track, album or playlist link is all we use, so leave it available while the order runs.

Plays arrive at 1K–10K per day, the speed shown for each tier. Spotify and many distributors monitor streaming activity and set their own rules, so read your distributor's terms and keep orders in proportion to your catalog. We can describe how delivery works, but we cannot speak for how Spotify or a distributor will respond.

If delivery looks slow, make sure the track is still live and that its link has not changed after a re-release. Support can check the order from there.

Tips to get more from your plays

  • Pitch unreleased tracks to Spotify editorial through Spotify for Artists at least a week before release.
  • Ask fans to save the track; saves weigh heavily in Spotify recommendations.
  • Add a Canvas and share a pre-save link to build momentum before release day.
  • Spread plays over the first weeks instead of one big spike.

Who buys Spotify plays?

Creators who post video or music regularly, artists promoting a new release, and brands that want campaign content to look watched from day one. Plays are the most affordable way to give a single upload a visible start.

Spotify plays: questions

How fast do Spotify plays start?

Most orders start within an hour and are delivered at about 1,000–10,000 plays per day.

What is the difference between Premium and Free plays?

Premium plays come from paid Spotify accounts, Free plays from free accounts. Premium is the most popular choice for new releases.

Do you need my Spotify login?

No. We only need the public link to the track, album or playlist.

When does the play count update?

Spotify updates public play counts with a delay, often a day or more. Your Spotify for Artists dashboard usually shows streams sooner.

How do I pay?

Pay with card, Apple Pay or Swish when you order. New customers get +20% on the first deposit (max $20).

What if something goes wrong?

Our support team answers in live chat and tickets, day and night. Send us your order number and we sort it out.

Can I order plays for a song that is not out yet?

No. The plays need a track that is live and playable on Spotify, so a pre-save link or a scheduled release will not work. Set the order up for release day instead: once the song appears on your artist profile, copy its link from the Share menu and place the order.

Can I paste an album link instead of a single track?

Yes, an album link works. If one song is your focus, though, paste that track's own link so the plays land exactly where you want them. Open the album, tap the three dots next to the song, choose Share and copy the song link. It takes a few seconds and keeps the order on target.

When is the best time to order plays for a new release?

Release day and the first days after it are the strongest window. That is when the song sits in your followers' Release Radar and when curators, fans and press are most likely to look at it. A visible count during that first week makes the release look like it has momentum from the start.

Will plays raise my monthly listeners?

This service is built to grow the play count on the track, album or playlist you link. Monthly listeners is a separate figure on your artist profile that counts unique listeners over the last 28 days. If that profile number is your main goal, Spotify monthly listeners is the dedicated service for it, and the two can run side by side.

Can I order plays for several tracks at the same time?

Yes. Place one order per track link, and they run in parallel. Each order shows its own progress under Orders, which makes it easy to follow a single and its B-side, or several songs from an EP, during the same week. Keep the amounts in proportion so that no single track looks out of place.
